About

My blog was orginally set-up to justify my desire to stay home on Mondays to babysit and watch sport – hence the blog was formerly www.mondaysportsblog.wordpress.com. However, I am realistic that is probably never happening. Still I can and do dream.

I have renamed the blog to www.runningthecutter.wordpress.com as the old name was pointless and frankly pretty boring.

For those of you unfamiliar with the term “running the cutter” it is a phrase that has apparently been around for a long time but gained increasing prominence over the last couple of years as players, coaches and media all jumped on the term. I was confused because a. I didn’t know where it had come from and b. People had and inconsistent application of it, most of the time it referred to a halfback or first five but I also heard it directed towards a French assistant coach, Zinzan Brooke and even Willie Lose on sideline commentary (the worst use of the phrase I’ve ever heard).

My conclusion was that it meant “controlling play” and that most of the people were using it because it sounds good and not that they actually knew what it meant.

Really that makes it the perfect site name for me – I control play without knowing what I am talking about most of the time and I call out the professionals when it is obvious they don’t know what they are talking about. Besides, the old name sucks and though well intentioned at the time doesn’t make sense to most people because I never actually post on most Mondays.

Enjoy.
